- 1 minWhat does it take to organize unconditional events? This is not an exhaustive list - it just gives an idea of the ‘unseen’ side of organizing for those who are not aware :)
It’s my choice to host many different types of events (in order to align with what I currently need) which increases the amount of work (as opposed to just doing a regular event every week).
- Promotion
- Creating sustainable promotion materials
- Creating specific event descriptions for communities (i.e. hipsy, couchers, workaway)
- Taking pictures (with consent)
- Networking
- Maintaining relationships with local communities, facilitators, spaceholders.
- Volunteering at external events.
- Practice
- Keeping up my own practice.
- Following and paying for facilitation trainings.
- Integrity
- Regularly take time to contemplate the effect of my events on the world and people around me.
- Be open to critical feedback.
- Answering questions.
- Meditate on and process things that happen in my spaces.
- Practical
- Bringing tea & snacks.
- Creating & bringing materials and props to spaces.
- Setting up and tidying up spaces.
- Consistency
- Dealing with no shows and latecomers.
- Maintaining flexibility while providing structure.
- IT
- Upkeep of websites.
- Learning to code with Jekyll (as I don’t pay for any tools I have to do it all myself)
- Managing forms, e-mail lists
- Spotify subscription & appropriate playlist creation
- Support
- Provide aftercare.
- Provide physical care & keep a radar out to ensure social safety.
Even a relatively small event usually takes at least a couple of hours to organize.
